Powering TimelyGrader with GPT-5

We’re excited to share that TimelyGrader is now testing complex grading tasks with OpenAI’s GPT-5. From early testing, complex tasks that were deemed too difficult to handle are now within reach.

A core belief at TimelyGrader is that we must continue to tackle subjects and grading tasks that may be difficult for current models. As part of our own research and development, we aim to reach the plateau of current capabilities so that when new models come out, we can quickly implement features that seemed out of reach before.

With GPT-5’s enhanced reasoning and enhancements to the API capabilities, we are now working on features that we are confident in delivering, including:

• Excel & Multi-Worksheet Assignments – Seamlessly evaluate multi-tab spreadsheets, formulas, and data workflows with deep understanding of formulae and values.

• Mathematical and Scientific Worksheets – Accurately assess numerical problem sets and step-by-step calculations.

• Advanced Exam-Style Assessments – Handle complex, mixed-format questions with improved accuracy on grading and feedback.

• Continuous Feedback Mode - Allow students to interact with TimelyGrader by suggests ongoing, connected feedback as drafts evolve.

For Fall 2025 however, we will suggest all of our partner institutions currently preparing for the upcoming term continue on our proven multimodal approach with o4 and GPT-4.1 in order to maintain current preparations, stability, and trust.
