Passing back grades to LMS without a rubric!

Yes. It's finally happening! Some improvements are also coming to our D2L and Canvas integration.

As many of you know, rubrics are a key factor in ensuring grading is accurate for humans and for any AI tools. That’s why we built our integration requiring LMS assignments to have both an assignment description and a rubric. Until now, only LMS assignments with both could be imported to TimelyGrader. However, we realize it isn’t always the case.

Sometimes rubrics aren’t needed or shown to the students. This could be because it is a low-stakes assignment or showing a rubric will give away too much of the answer.

Our integration currently does not support the import of LMS assignments without a rubric so these instructors were out of luck.

Therefore, based on popular request from our institutional partners, instructors will be able to pass back overall grades for LMS assignments without a rubric.

Here’s what that will look like (subject to minor changes!):

  1. Import Assignments using our API integration for LMS assignments with or without a rubric.

The screenshot below shows an assignment imported that does not have a rubric

  2. You will still need a rubric on TimelyGrader to ensure there is accurate grading and relevant feedback. You can use our AI to create a rubric or create it manually.

  3. Once the rubric is created, 1) you can opt to pass the rubric back to your LMS assignment and therefore attach a rubric to it 2) or go ahead without passing the rubric back.

If you do not pass the rubric back, then only the overall grade will be passed back.

To summarize this upcoming update:

  • You can now import LMS assignments with OR without a rubric

  • You can pass rubrics from TimelyGrader back to the Canvas and D2L assignment

    1. LMS assignments without rubrics will only have overall grade passed back

    2. LMS assignments with rubrics will have BOTH overall grade and rating scores passed back

Compatibility with LMS assignments without a rubric will come April 2nd!
