Is TimelyGrader Compatible with Group Assignments?

Group submissions are a common tool in the instructor toolbox. 2 out of 5 assignments that we grade at TimelyGrader are group submissions such as reports, posters, or a presentation deck from a group of 4 or 5 students.

Naturally, instructors often ask me how TimelyGrader can support this type of submission if there is a Canvas or D2L integration in play. Our integration with Canvas and D2L is one of the major reasons why institutions choose TG over other AI tools so supporting individual and group submission was a key priority.

Without the integration, you simply download the group submissions and upload them to TimelyGrader. However, with the integration, TimelyGrader imports submitted files directly from Canvas or D2L. But what about group submissions? Is that also supported?

Does TimelyGrader support group assignments & submissions?

Yes, we do! And it works just like you would imagine it…

1. Group submission import from LMS:

   
   Since TG plugs directly into your LMS, when students submit as a group on Canvas or D2L, you are able to import their submission directly into TG for grading. This reduces the need for manual downloads and uploads. If you have a team of 5 submitting one file, only one file will need to be graded as if you are grading on Canvas or D2L.

   

2. Group grade export to LMS:

   
   Once you finish grading the group submissions on TG, you can export the group grades back to Canvas’s SpeedGrader and grade book and D2L’s grading flow and grade book with a single click. For each student in the group, they will see the group grade you assigned.

3. Streamlined Feedback Process:

   
   Feedback provided to the group will also appear on each student’s view like below - similar to how instructors traditionally provide grading and feedback.
